My name is Ziying, authentic Chinese girl, born&raised, now living in Melbourne.
I grew up in a small city which you probably have never heard of. But I always found it really cool to tell people it is the “Hometown of Chinese Mulberry Silk”!
While most Aussie kids had dogs, cats, or maybe rabbits as their pets, my most vivid memory was watching silkworms wriggling in brown card-board boxes.
I would pick mulberry leaves near the river on my way home from school. Until weather gets warm, and the silkworms start wrapping themselves into cocoons…
It was quite common to be making silk doonas at home back in the days - I remember watching my grandma:
Each cocoon is boiled to soften and hand-stretched into a pocket-shape; each silk pocket features 5-6 cocoons.
Each silk pocket is then hand-pulled by four experienced elderly women into desired size of the doona. A thin summer doona would require about 70-80 silk pocket layers…
Another piece of my fond childhood memory was looking out the window from dancing class. It’s super odd, I know.
It was a winter afternoon blessed with golden glare, I watched a lady taking out a big chunk of doona to the small balcony and carefully exposing the full surface of it to the sunlight.
She then brought out a tennis racquet looking tool and started gently patting the doona. I couldn’t help imagining how cosy it would be to sleep in this sun-kissed doona on such cold and humid winter night…
“A lucky person's lifetime is cured by her childhood.”
I was lucky to have a childhood full of lovely dreams while tucked-in to my silk doona. I draw so much inspiration from these beautiful memories as an adult.
Melbourne has been so welcoming and kind to me in the past decade. So, it is such a blessing to be able to source the best quality premium mulberry silk and introduce this natural, organic duvet to the community I live in and love.
I sincerely hope you enjoy Roseception Silk Duvet as much as I do – Good Night!!
